 Learning first aid at St John Ambulance, Cork City, is a very rewarding experience. It is also the doorway to joining the organisation as a volunteer. Our occupational first aid course is open to the public. We also offer first aid courses to companies and schools. In house courses can be arranged. Further details are available by clicking here.

The first aid course is recognised by the Health and Safety Authority of Ireland. We have decades of experience in pre hospital care and have distilled this knowledge into a very meaningful training plan.

The course is spread over a number of weeks in order to make it accessible to everyone. It generally takes place every tuesday night over 9 weeks. It offers a carefully balanced mix between theory and hands-on work. Our experienced instructors will ensure that you get the most out of the course, and are always available for questions or to provide additional tuition.The next Night time Occupational First AId course will be announced shortly.

The course is tested with an examination and practical (Short Answer Question SAQ) assessment.

Is there a certificate?

Yes. Your Health and Safety Authority First Aid Course Certificate is valid for two years.

Managing Incidents, Communication, Managing Incidents, Delegation in Emergencies, Resuscitation, Control Bleeding, Heart Attacks, Unconsciousness, Dressings, Fractures, Burns and Scalds, Illness recognition, Eye Irrigation, Poisoning, Miscellaneous Injuries, Record Keeping, Priorities of First Aid, Examination

Why bother?

Every year there are over 10,000 deaths in Ireland due to cardiovascular disease. The largest number of these deaths relate to Coronary Heart Disease mainly Heart Attack, at 5,000. For many victims it is what happens in the first few minutes following a heart attack that will decide their fate. Every two minutes someone, somewhere, has a heart attack.

The Building is equipped with different training rooms to facilitate the different training requirements that may be required.
